Does your auto insurance rate when you turn 18 years old, any cheaper?
ByHey everybody, I’ll be turning 18 in a couple of months. I live in Georgia, and drive a 2002 Lexus RX 300, which is a mid-size SUV.
I am not looking for a specific quote. I got my license late because I had to do drivers ed, and other reasons(non legal)…well the thing is, I have only had my license for a few months and haven’t bought insurance. I don’t know if I should wait until I am 18 to buy it.
Is insurance a lot cheaper once your 18 as opposed to 17 or so?
Please only answer if you know what your talking about. THANKS a lot for the help..
Sincerely,
Zain Dhanani

If you are a male with no tickets or accidents your insurance rates will go down no sooner than 25 years old because you are still considered in the ‘high-risk’ category.
In most states driving while not insured is ticketable (unless you are covered under your parent’s insurance.) Most states require at least liability coverage now.
If you are still in school and depending on your insurance company you can get discounts for getting good grades and keeping a high GPA.
Depending on the kind of car you drive will also affect your rates. Call a few insurance companies to find out which will insure you at the best rate with the most coverage. The older more ‘family’ oriented cars will generally be less expensive (to insure, register etc.) for a young man under 25 but there aren’t a whole lot of 21 year old guys who run out and buy an 87′ Dodge Caravan!
Good Luck with your insurance hunting, it’s quite a process (which can be frustrating at times!)

Insurance doesn’t depend on age as much as experience. If you are first insured at 18, the rate won’t be much different when compared to what it would have been at 17. It depends on how many years you’ve been driving. Since you’re driving a Lexus, you’re going to be paying a small fortune. If you got your license earlier, and drove a car that was more reasonable, you would have more affordable insurance.

Try getting an online insurance quote from one of the major insurance providers.
